In Defense of Pleasure

What do we do about burnout?

Giving the “Talk”
Many parents are intimidated to have the sex talk with their kids and do not know what is age-appropriate. The good and the bad news is the sex talk is not a single conversation. It is an evolving dialogue with your child about who they are, their boundaries, their relationships with friends and family, their changing body and, eventually, about their questions relating to sexuality.

Curiosity Is an Essential Tool in Your Relationship Toolbox

Pleasure is Not a Bad Word
Pleasure has taken on the weight of our society’s condemnation of the erotic, of rest, and of liberation. Pleasure has been relegated to the realms of frivolity, dirty desires, and experiences worthy of your guilt and shame. Pleasure is simply the enjoyment of something. It is a feeling of happy satisfaction. The practice of pleasure comes with ease once you make it through the woods of social messaging, conditioned stigma, and negative thoughts that have stood in your way.

Glimmers (of pleasure)
Glimmers give us a sweet entry point into the discussion of pleasure without having to fully unpack our relationship to pleasure straight out of the gate. For those of you who still bristle at the word or view is as purely sexual or who feel like pleasure is a far-off lofty thing that must be nice for other people, but unattainable for you, glimmers are your way in.

Your Right to Pleasure
We live on an unbelievably abundant planet (maybe the only of its kind in the Universe) that came intact with every building block for life and has evolved in absolutely unimaginable ways. It will (or perhaps “would” is the more appropriate word to use in light of the current climate crisis) continue to provide for us if we stopped pillaging its resources. Why then can you not experience joy each and every day? I am not suggesting to throw your values, your resilience, or your hard work out the window. But please consider, if for nothing other than the love of Earth, that you have a right to bask in the prosperity, abundance, wonder, and love that surrounds us. Joy is available to you every day.
